Chocolate & Beer Pairings

Chocolate & Beer Pairings

This fall, as beer lovers from all over converge on Denver for the annual (world famous, we think-but we're biased) Great American Beer Festival (locally known as GABF), we figured we would offer up some expert knowledge about chocolate— and beer.

Beer and chocolate pairings are starting to brew up everywhere, and who wouldn’t love match-ups between two delicious decadences? And since we dabble in the beer world every once in a while...

Here is our guide to pairing GABF beers with a few local favorites from Chocolate Crisis Center:

Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Carmelita

Pairs well with IPA's and the stronger Belgian-style beers (think dubbels & trippels).

Our picks: RiNo Pale Ale from EPIC Brewing, or Dead Eye Dunkel from Pug Ryan’s.

Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Carmelita

Pairs well with golden Belgian ales.

Our Picks: Brainless Belgian-style Golden Ale from EPIC Brewing, or Abbey Belgian Style Ale from New Belgium Brewery.

Milk Chocolate Blueberry

Pairs well with nut-brown, or scotch-style ales.

Our Picks:  Ellie’s Brown Ale from Avery Brewing Co., or Face Down Brown from Telluride Brewing Co.

Coffee Toffee Crunch

Pairs well with stouts and porters.

Our Picks: Shake Chocolate Porter from Boulder Beer, or Oatmeal Stout from Breckenridge Brewery.

Triple Shot Espresso Beans

Pairs well with imperials and dark beers.

Our Picks: Yeti Imperial Stout from Great Divide Brewing Co., or Hiatus (Oatmeal Stout) from Renegade Brewing Co..

Peanut Butter Crunch

  Pairs well with German-style dunkels.

Our Picks: Dunkel from Prost Brewing or Fearless Youth (Dunkelweizen) from Grimm Brothers Brewery.

Toffee Almond

Pairs well with porters or stouts.

Our Picks: Red Porter from Black Shirt Brewing Co., or Graham Cracker Porter from Denver Beer Co.

Cinnamon Buzz Bomb (this is the wow factor)

  Pairs well with pilsners.

Our Picks: Blue Paddle Pilsner from New Belgium Brewery, or Mama’s Little Yella Pils from Oskar Blues Brewery.

Don't have tickets to GABF? Stop in our store this Friday between 6 and 9pm, and you can sample (for free) some of these very pairings— while supplies last!

Get your selfies on in Denver’s best photo booth (capacity 12) with Dr. Ernst Angst live (more or less) and in person. That starts at six, too. See you next Friday!
